City Hall Considers Zoning Relaxation for Veterans Housing
City Council last week heard Councilman Rollin H. Everett propose temporary zoning changes to allow increased occupancy in Zone A and Zone B properties to expand veteran housing. He also sought permission for veteran William R. Mattox and his family to stay in a garage apartment at 4033 Rose Hill Avenue. The matter was referred to the Law Committee amid ongoing Civil Service irregularity investigations led by Councilman Gordon Scherer, with Everett and Locker on the inquiry. A smoke ordinance to curb coal smoke in non designated equipment was urged by Albert D. Cash, needing one more vote for passage.

Must Save Price Controls Henry Kaiser Tells Congress
Henry J. Kaiser told the House Banking Committee that price controls via the OPA should be preserved. He praised OPA for fair treatment of his 50 firms and warned that ending controls would force short-term price hikes and mass layoffs as material costs rise. He criticized NAM’s campaign to scrap OPA and noted his firms have not been polled for viewpoint.
