The Better Housing League and Community Chest agency faced questions from pro Roosevelt supporters after a July letter praised both FDR and Gov. Dewey on public housing. Executive secretary Bleecker Marquette was on vacation while League president Standish Meachem denied any political favoritism, stating Roosevelt is for better housing, and they were glad Dewey showed commitment too.

Council secretary Max Sien cited his long reporting career on city government and planning and his potential to rally support for projects.
