A long list of union meetings and executive sessions is scheduled across multiple locals. Dates span February 7 to February 21 with times ranging from afternoon to evening at venues including Vine street rooms, Carll sites, and the Legion Hall.

Avert Gardner-Richardson Contract Extended to March 1

Local 1009 of the United Paper Workers averted a strike by extending the Gardner-Richardson Co. contract to March 1 to continue negotiations. Union officials led by Robert J. Davidson reported the company refused key demands on wages, membership maintenance, and check-off during a two-day session. The extension preserves bargaining time and may lead to arbitration if no agreement is reached, with the union’s Negotiating Committee empowered to call a strike during the 60-day period if needed.
