Truman Sets Labor Management Conference After Sept. 5
President Truman outlines a plan to convene organized labor and industry at the White House after September 5 to draft a dispute settlement proposal that avoids strikes or lockouts. A new Executive Order would empower the War Labor Board to grant wage increases with voluntary agreement, lacking price relief requests by employers. The move aims to preserve wartime peace and guide reconversion to a peacetime economy through conciliation and voluntary arbitration.
