Job Training Program Aids 333 Unemployed in Midwest

Kroger co operates a union backed JOBS program to train 333 hard core unemployed in Ohio Michigan and Kentucky. Trainees will work as material handler clerk meat apprentice meat wrapper night clerk stock and sales clerk meat plant sanitor processed foods sanitor meat fabricator and car gangman. Cities include Cincinnati Cleveland Columbus Dayton Toledo Detroit and Louisville with wages after training around 2.81 dollars an hour and government cost about 1208 dollars per trainee. Training by Clopay Corporation and union support by Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butchers Teamsters and Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers Union. Meany emphasizes broad cooperation as National Alliance of Businessmen launches JOBS.

Chronicle Announces August 1 Nonpublication Change

The Chronicle will not publish on August 1 and will instead publish the missing issue on August 29 before Labor Day. The paper normally releases 48 Thursdays yearly and will shift the August publication from the first Thursday to the fifth to align with Labor Day weekend. Union scribes and secretaries are urged to adjust column and meeting notices accordingly.

New 10 Percent Tax Surcharge Begins July 14

The 10 percent surcharge on individual income tax takes effect for wages paid on or after July 14. withholding starts July 14. April 1 to July 14 will be due with 1968 filing. Relief thresholds: single under 1900 and families of four under 5000 avoid the surcharge.
