Protection When Tornado Threatens Area
Tornado season peaks in April through June with many warnings and watches. The National Safety Council advises sheltering indoors in reinforced areas, moving to lower floors, avoiding windows, and taking cover under heavy furniture if no basement is available. In open country lie in a ditch but avoid culverts with rising water. If in a car, drive at right angles to the storm or seek better shelter if possible.
