The Shawneetown Mercury records the death of Dr. John W. Tunnell at his residence on the night of the 11th from congestion of the lungs. Born December 16, 1912 in Versailles Woodford County Kentucky, he lived in Shawneetown since 1841, practicing medicine for about twenty two years before focusing on farming the last seven or eight. He leaves a wife and three children, with the community expressing deep sympathy for the loss of a respected physician who had few rivals in his long career.
