A Cincinnati party travels east to Philadelphia to inspect Fairmount Park’s Centennial preparation. The piece extols the grand plans, vast buildings, water and transport arrangements, foreign participation, and state support for the 1876 Exhibition, highlighting Memorial Hall, Agricultural and other pavilions, and the scale of access and infrastructure.

The Rev Geo Catt a well known Christian Church preacher died this morning at Lima Ohio at his son in law’s residence Born in England he came to this city forty years ago He lived on a farm near Cheviot and preached Sundays near the village He served thirty years was beloved by all aged 71 leaving a wife and five adult children The funeral will be tomorrow morning at 1 from his residence near Cheviot.
This morning the case Bannister versus Swift et al opened with jurors and counsel. plaintiffs seek 25000 damages for alleged failure to net. Attorneys Collin, Johnston, Hoadly and Johnson represent defendants. A separate equity petition by Asa Waters against Cutter et al seeks foreclosure and relief. The marshal was ordered to advertise a six day sale of the steamer Nachi. A US revenue case Sperry et al was settled by the commissioner and discontinued.

In St Louis on October 23 Stephen Levis a fisherman and ferryman sank a loaded ferry boat crossing the Mississippi from South St Louis to East Carondelet. The craft leaked and overturned with most passengers drowned including Perry Glover Stephen Leyis Bettie Slaughter Lillie Smith Louisa Jackson and a three year old boy. Levis perished while trying to save two women.
Reports from Parsons Kansas describe legal action involving General Shanks Indian Court and M P Roberts seeking to control Creek collateral and confiscate property while challenging press freedom. A charter from Creek Coll aims to regulate printing material and building within ten days, as officials pursue suppression or control over newspaper columns.
