Thieves broke into A Hoff jewelry store last night seizing about 1500 dollars in valuables. The entry was made by sawing through a fire building and an outhouse accessed the scene. Police investigating the incident as a jewelry theft.
Jenks, held in La County Jail awaiting a second trial for the murder of George Mallow at Ontario in June 1470, escaped last night with outside assistance traced to Dispatch to the Times and Chronicle. Authorities pursue leads to recapture him and reveal possible accomplices.

Officer Rittweger and Lt Dietsch arrested Robert J Morris alias Jacob Johnson a 39 year old lawyer on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. The man claimed to be a legitimate attorney with offices in Indianapolis and Cincinnati and produced papers from the City Work House seeking funds, but he was captured after a pursuit near Sycamore and Broadway.
The Cincinnati Bar gathered to pay last respects to Gol Thomas J Henderson, a member for 40 years. Flamen Ball Sr chaired the adjourned meeting and Judge Carter led the resolutions committee, presenting a tribute to the deceased.
The remains of Secretary Seward lie in state at his residence from Monday morning until afternoon. His last words were Love one another. Albany reports Gov Hofman issued a eulogistic proclamation and ordered state departments closed on Monday with flags at half mast.
The Times and Chronicle reports a coroner inquiry into last night’s Market Street disaster where five Nolte family members and one other man died and three children were wounded.
