The witness described personal feelings toward General Grant and the President’s stance on the matter, including a cigar remark during the President’s reply. The Commissioner of the Army asked about the Seneca’s influence while noting no action to renew the trader ship.
The Franklin County Republican Convention met in Columbus and adopted resolutions praising Rutherford B. Hayes. A Fleming County stock raiser Isaac G Reeves is accused in Cincinnati of illicit distilling in 1866 or 1867. He allegedly bribed Bristow, then prosecuting attorney, with one hundred fat hogs worth 2700 to obtain a dismissal. Delegates to the State Convention and a county Central Committee were chosen. names include Colonel Charles L Rae, D W Welling, Abner Francis, John McClellan, and others. Resolutions praised Governor Mayes without naming a presidential candidate and urged Bristow’s revenue-law enforcement actions. The meeting was described as the largest of its kind in the area.

Special Dispatch to the Cincinnati Times reports in Dianarolis on March 25 the trial of Harry Williams, brother of the Postmester, for alleged crookedness as Deputy, is on to-day before Judge Gresham. Preliminaries were disposed of and Judge Gresham granted a temporary injunction restraining the Lafayette, Manele and Bloomington Railroad from crossing the Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Lafayette Railroad near Lafayette.
