Under orders from the General Superintendent the Merchants' Union Express Company was closed yesterday. All company effects were turned over to American Express, and the employees discharged. Frank Clark, an agent of American, has been a prominent agent of the consolidated firms in the city. The Toledo office has been turned over to United States Express, as has the Dayton office.
The Theological Library Association appointed a committee to secure resident lecturers for a course of ten to twelve lectures. At a meeting of the Young Men's Mercantile Library Association last evening a Nominating Committee was elected for 1439. George B. Weidler Lewis Seasongood Lester Taylor J. Hale Samuel Lowry I Whiteon Brown and T. A. Jones named. A Prize Fight between James Bayton and Johnny Lafferty is set for tomorrow on Kentucky soil. The steamer Coosa will depart Covington, Newport Landing, and Dayton to reach the fighting grounds. Lafferty, confident in form, is under Barry Frain’s guidance with Patey Reardon as second. Bayton’s seconds include Gallagher and Tom Ryan of Newport, praised for his ring work.
