The Driving Park Association opened a three day racing season in Toledo with three harness and running events. Loafer of Terre Haute won the first race with a 2 40 best time. White Bird and Mollie Newton of New York won the double team race in 2 42 14. Chapel’s Bacol of Detroit took the running horse race with a 2 10 best time amid fine weather and a large crowd.
A telegram from Captain Hotchkins of the bark H Trowbridge Halifax lists the rescued crew. Five of the crew and one of the Captain's children were among those saved from the vessel.
The legislature took a recess to the first Monday in November with no action on the Governor's veto. The Senate could pass a bill but the House tabled it. Most members departed, awaiting November reelection and the registration of votes before elections.

A six year old daughter of Mehr Forsythe of Lockbourne drowned yesterday after falling into the canal lock at that place. Meanwhile in Columbus the Secretary of State filed certificates of incorporation for the Land and Building Association of Cincinnati with capital $200,000 and the Allgemeiner Consum yereinoon of Cincinnati with capital $10,000.

Boe rraxo New York August 12 Ex in this city say there is no occasion slorm about cattle disease. Animals affected are those overheated by the late warm spell in close freight cars. Clean air will eradicate the disease. The annual run corn dance and other festivities will be celebrated at the race track in this city. The festivities last all week.

Special Dispatch reports Stevens body dressed in black with a floral wreath laid out at his late residence. It will lie in state in the Capitol rotunda for citizens to view, before interment in Lancaster on Friday. The President is indignant at Evarts' Rollins decision made public pre copy.
