Great Fire Destroys Much of Oil City Main Street
A massive blaze in Oil City Pennsylvania on July 31 destroyed both sides of Main Street from the Post Office to the National Hotel and swept through the Western Union and Pacific Telegraph offices, several yards, and numerous residences. About 150 buildings burned with two hundred families rendered homeless and losses estimated near 1500000 though insured around 50000.
