A Cincinnatian in Trouble Over Fort Hays Tragedy
Lieut Chas B Brady of Company E 19th Kansas formerly of Cincinnati played a central role in a Fort Hays shooting. He had deserted and faced a rival informer Gunning who accused him. Brady killed Gunning with a drawn revolver after a tense saloon confrontation. He fled the scene and was later captured after surrendering on a train near Junction City amid strong public anger and threats of lynching mitigated by detectives.
