The bark J. W. Andrews reached New York reporting that on April 16 in Bahama Bank the British gunboat Cygnet fired on the Cygnets when the U S gunboat Connecticut engaged it, the Cygnet being mistaken for the Alabama. The Connecticut towed the Cygnet. The Connecticut’s captain later boarded the Cygnet and the incident was settled amicably.
From Nashville on April 19 reports say a city scare over a planned assault by Van Dora. The Ordnance Department issued arms to all Quartermaster Department employees by order of Gen. Rescorans to maintain security.
A Wash Dispatch reports the capture on Friday of the Chief of Staff of Rebel General French in the Nanse mond theater by Lieutenant Commander Cushing aboard the Commodore Barney.
