In Des Moines Iowa May 24 a child of H L Skinner secretary of the American Emigration Company fell into an open cistern eight to ten feet deep. The mother jumped in to save the child and both disappeared. The mother later drowned, the child was rescued and resuscitated, and the son aged seventeen barely survived.
Ex mayor H. M. Chapin died at his Cleveland home last night aged fifty six. The brief notice notes his former office and omits other details from the fragmentary clipping.
