At Saratoga Laks July 14 Yale rider Julian Kennedy won the two mile single scull race by six lengths with a time of 14 minutes 21 seconds. Second place went to W T Weld in 14 minutes 50 seconds as umpire James Watson announced the results.
Ithaca reports Cornell achieves second and greatest victory amid bells, chimes, explosions, and campus banners. In New York City fifty seven Cornell Alumni send congratulations to captains, while Indianapolis alumni mark the win with a Saratoga banquet and parade.

An elderly wealthy Kosciusko County farmer named W Wiltrow was struck by a reaping machine when his horses bolted during harvest. He was caught under the knives and severely injured, dying soon after. The incident occurred near Warsaw Indiana with Fort Wayne reporting.
Scaffolding at McCormick & Sweanys Opera House collapsed around 10 am in Columbus Indiana injuring five men. Morris Spinner suffered a broken thigh and three ribs while Thos Leach had a fractured skull. Both injuries are not expected to be fatal. A $200 relief purse was raised for the victims.
General freight agent Osborne of the Wabash Road entertained officers of the Indiana & Illinois Central Railroad and local citizens along the line. They return home tomorrow. The Union Boat House construction for the August regatta was begun yesterday.

Milwaukee July 14 Bell and Martin grain merchants failed to fulfill contracts for 240000 bushels of wheat. Another large house could not respond to margin calls but is expected to be relieved from its embarrassments tomorrow.
Aviany July 14 H B Dennison contractor refused to produce books before the Canal Investigation Commission and was found guilty of pelicn and ordered to imprisonment for thirty days at a new county jail.
The Brooklyn Eagle reports that several Brooklyn clergy and ministers from other cities joined in a letter to Mr expressing affection and support.
Americans prepare for Wimbledon ties as tents go up. The American Rifle Team departed Edinburgh this morning for London and is due to arrive tonight. They will meet the National Rifle Association council tomorrow to decide the latest proposition.
London reports from the Spanish frontier via Bayonne that General Dorregaray, unable to penetrate French territory, has retreated toward Barbastro. Six officers and 172 of his rear guard sought refuge in France near Gavarnie and were arrested. French troops guard the frontier from Pau. Don Carlos remains at Villa Veal with a strong force.
In Versailles the assembly debated a motion to renew a department election with twenty days set, rejected 296 to 335. M Rouher defended parliamentary authority over elections and attacked Bonapartists, while Gambetta and others clashed over the republic’s fate and the legacy of Napoleon III.

M. F. Collier, an insurance man, fell from a window at the Sherman House last night. He was removed to his room and, though unconscious, no serious injury is expected. He rose to open shutters because the room was too hot and lost his balance.
