Orphaned Girl Saved From Wretched Tenement, Taken to Asylum
A three to six year old girl, the child of parents jailed for drunkenness, was found starved and destitute in a Third Street tenement room. Court Officer Duffy and Lieut. Wersel moved her to St Peter and Joseph's Asylum after reporting the family had sold their furniture for liquor. The girl recalled a deceased younger sister who cried for food. Sister OPAMP met them at the asylum and offered care.
