On Monday February 24 the Manchester merchant Jonathan Gill has failed with liabilities of 160 000 pounds. The Bank of England reports bullion withdrawals of 100 000 pounds for balance today. Other items note earthquakes felt in Arequipa and Iquique with no damage, South Africa native forces disbanded per home government, light rain improving prospects in Onde and northwest provinces, and the Punjaub facing a critical spring crop condition.
Rev D W Fisher of Second Presbyterian Church argued in last night’s sermon that no woman who examines herself should participate in modern promiscuous dancing, deeming it indecent and unbecoming. His stance aligns with Rev Roberts of Trinity Church who recently voiced a similar position.

A blaze in Chillicothe at Adler's residence and cigar shop starting about 8 pm totally destroyed the building. Loss estimated between $500 and $1,000, with $500 insured in the Ohio Insurance Company of Cincinnati.
Morse is superseded as Division Superintendent by Col. Wood, superintendent of railroad shops in Broomington on February 24. Wood assumes duties in charge of operations for the Chicago and St. Louis Railroad in this city.
Reprorp Inc reports Jacob Bulli, a one armed pauper, found dead in a small stream south of here yesterday after lying there about three weeks. He suffered epileptic fits and likely died during one. Coroner's jury reached that conclusion.
The body of Frederick Shearer, who hanged himself last week, was found missing from his grave. Officials believe the body was sent to Ann Arbor and have no clue to the culprits.
Charles W Angell former secretary of Pullman Palace Car Company was arrested in Puivaverputa. He was taken to the Court of Common Pleas by Deputy Sheriff, remanded to Detective Frank and shipped to Chicago with his brother. Angell declined writ of habeas corpus.
Rev Allan Carr speaking at the First Baptist Church urges respect for Chinese residents under treaty rights while expressing belief they would be better off if they never came. He says the President should sign the bill or people must wait for laws to remove them.
From Fort Meade on February 24 courier reports two freight trains were attacked near Rapid City as Indians fired on residents to hinder rescue of teamsters. A second raid at Sulphur Springs Station killed one man and stole four horses. Cavalry under Captain French began pursuit. It is believed Little Wolf's Cheyenne band fronts the attacks en route to Sitting Bull's camp.
The King of the Carnival arrived in New Orleans and was greeted by the Mayor who presented the keys of the city. He spoke with Gen. Sherman, who said the army was in satisfactory condition, and invited Sherman to tomorrow's reception at Exposition Hall.
Capt Paul Boyton began his long voyage in the life saving suit from Pittssure at 8:30 this morning. The water was at freezing and the river clogged with ice. He expects Rochester tonight Steuben ville Tuesday night and Wheeling Wednesday night.
A Fort Worth dispatch reports that at 6 o clock Sunday morning a stage bound for Fort Yuma was stopped within Liscoy Nes by three masked highwaymen. Two passengers surrendered money and the mail bags lost fourteen registered packages.
Pruravecruia February 24. P R Ferguson once Chief Local Agent of the West Philadelphia Post Office, jailed for stealing letters in December last, took Prussic acid in his cell this morning and died within minutes.
Detective Norris heads to Pike County to arrest Bob McKimmie, already serving a ten year term, with ten more likely in a Pike County indictment for robbery. Railroad plans include Cincinnati to Huntington routes with $500 000 stock and named incorporators. Shawnee, Hocking Valley & Columbus Railway also proposed with Greek-listed stock and Columbus incorporation. Local ticket features a mixed party slate and a hard challenge to the Republican ticket.
Rev Dr Justin D Fulton of New York was expelled from the New York Conference of Baptist Ministers after a debate over remarks on a member’s war record. The 23 to 11 vote followed his refusal to replace an apologetic letter. Clerks announced the next meeting would focus on devotional services.
The annual Washington's Birthday celebration at Kenyon College featured the Columbus Cadet Band performing throughout the day, impressive night illuminations of the college building, and talks by Nu Pi Kappa Society orator Mr Curtis and Philomathesian Society speaker Mr Bogwall. Social hops followed in Rosse Hall and Kenyon House with many alumni in attendance.
In Gest settlement eight miles north of town a bloody brawl broke out at a Negro school exhibition last Friday night. David Rolling was shot in the head but not dangerously wounded. John Rolliy’s skull was fractured. Nelson Peel suffered a razor wound. Demsey Turner was cut on the arm. Sundry others were knocked down or bruised. Bob Fraser, Charles Peyton, and Join and Charley Evans were arrested and face trial here on Thursday.
In Coshocton County a group of sixty coal miners walked out at the Home mines after being asked to wait for pay as superintendent G. M. Reckitts was away. He later paid those who voted to suspend work, prompting the full shift to strike.
Mt Vernon Ohio February 24 special dispatch reports Democrats in Mt Vernon city and Clinton Township holding a solemn conclave to discuss party affairs and local strategy.
A mail train at Crammersburg station derailed, sending one car with about twenty five passengers down a six foot embankment. Fifteen to eighteen people were hurt including Hiram Bixler Fayetteville arm broken, Rev Dr Stewart Newburg N Y arm broken, Frank Scheible wife and son Scotland seriously injured, Miss Milles Greencastle shoulder bruised, Samuel Prather Greencastle head injury, two Davison children Green Castle minor injuries, Bishop Glossbrenner and Rev Bulger U B Church bruised, others with cuts and bruises but able to continue.
The February funeral for Bishop Foley drew thousands as Archbishop Gibbons preached on Samuel and Foley’s life. Thomas Foley, educated at St Mary College and Seminary, was ordained in 1846 and served in Chicago after early work in Maryland. The ceremony honored his service to the church and the Diocese of Chicago, with pallbearers and a burial at Bonnie Brae Cemetery.
Obituary note reports the death of former congressman Hasbrouck at Rondout New York aged eighty eight. Separate resolutions from the Pacific District American Turners Union and the California Constitutional Convention thank Congress for passage of the anti Chinese bill.
A powerful storm raged yesterday on Prince Edward Island damaging the Catholic Church at Cardigan Road the Presbyterian Church at Souris and railway sheds at Summerside. Snow in railway cuttings measures sixteen to twenty feet with other casualties reported.
