An 19th century patent medicine claims to purify the blood, clear the skin, brighten the eyes, and improve complexion. It promises to cure chronic diseases, rheumatism, ulcers, skin conditions, glandular issues, and various pains with small doses, sold for $1 per bottle by druggists.
An advertisement extols Radway Ready Relief as the best cure for numerous ailments from throat and fever to dysentery and cramps. It claims rapid relief in hours, supports miner and farmer use where doctors are scarce, and markets the remedy as superior to brandy or bitters, priced at fifty cents.
Dr Radway’s Regulating Pills advertised as a vegetable remedy for disorders of the digestive organs. Claims to cleanse liver bowels kidneys bladder and nerves with no mercury or deleterious drugs. Describes symptoms relieved such as head ache, fullness after meals, indigestion, and feverish inflammation. Sold by druggists, Radway & Co. No 12 Kent Street.
Special dispatch from Wadmiarox reports the Mississippi Investigating Committee's findings on Vicksburg. The panel rejects white battle terms and labels killings of black residents as massacre while detailing sheriff seizures, political clashes, and calls for continued rail and tax debates in Congress.
The President sent to the Senate the nomination of Harvey Jewell to be Judge of the Court of Commissioners of the Alabama claims. Other confirmations include John A. Campbell and several state and territorial officials. House panels discuss a $2.5 million deficiency bill and DC property tax at 1.5 percent with delinquent sale extension. Treasury to begin 10-40s interest payments. Missouri swamp land settlers relief act approved.
Loxpow February 24 notes steamship City of Mon oo New York Atlas from Boston out to New York and San Francisco on February 24. Arrivals include Pac torus in New York. Geo B Plant, longtime St Louis merchant and maker of Plant flour, died yesterday in that city.
The Ohio Prohibition Society held a session before the State Convention and adopted a constitution at Crestline on October 6 1874. The recent convention in Columbus nominated a state ticket with Jay Odell and Delmont Locke among officers, reaffirmed last year’s platform, and pledged support for President Ulysses S Grant.
In Columbus on February 24 a certificate of incorporation for a Scioto Valley Railroad with capital of 2 million dollars was filed. Prominent local capitalists led by Wm Manypenny and John G Mitchell form a group backed by Geo D Chapman of New York. Plans call for a line from Columbus to Portsmouth with 5 000 per mile subscriptions payable as trains reach Chillicothe Circleville and other towns. A Portsmouth delegation aims to raise 100 000 by March. If built, the project could alter regional rail plans and rival routes.
Special Dispatch to the Cincinnati Gazette notes J. D. Cox, Receiver, postpones adding fast express and other trains on the Toledo, Wabash & Western Railroad from March 1. Weather harms track and rolling stock. aim to restore order and honor back arrears with new management.
A tin box with $12,000 in money and bonds was stolen from W. C. Cooper’s trunk on the M and C BR line. The box was found along a riverbank but the mortgages were missing, offering a potential lead to the thieves.
