The United States District Court Grand Jury returned two joint indictments against Keely and Kerwin, distillers, for whisky frauds in Chicago on February 17. Michael Murphy, twice sentenced to be hanged for the Matilda Hujus murder, was again sentenced to die on April 7 in New York. A bootblack was killed in a fight with a fellow bootblack in Little Rock. John Costley, a New Orleans court officer, was shot dead by G. J. Newhouse after a billiards quarrel.

Indians have bought arms and ammunition, even into Indian Territory, while the strongest fighters roam the northern rivers gathering forces for war. State ticket in interior counties shows 19427 votes for major candidate and 11275 majority. Returns continue arriving.
