Forgeries Hit Stock Exchange Letters Looming Failures
From New York the Stock Exchange received letters announcing new stock issues of ten million dollars for the Toledo Wabash Western and nine million for Western Union Telegraph. The response was a market drop of about a half to three quarters percent and a somber mood across the list. Concurrently the trial of Joseph W. Freeman for matricide was postponed to March 9 in Hudson County New Jersey. The Bloomingdale Lunatic Asylum superintendent will extend a six week inquiry into Freeman’s mental state with Wisconsin witnesses sought. The Building Superintendent headed to Philadelphia to inspect a brewery collapse and similar structures in the city that caused numerous deaths.
