The Hon John Wentworth of Chicago plans a two volume history of the Wentworth family with about nineteen thousand dollars cost. Arthur Gilman of Lee Massachusetts prepared a genealogical and biographical record tracing the Gilman line from John Gilman of Exeter New Hampshire, including over five hundred Gilmans with brief bios. Dio Lewis built an eight story boarding house in Boston. He rooms on the top floor and issues dinner orders through a speaking tube, dining fifteen minutes later without stairs for any guest. Umb waiters serve, while elevators deliver boarders to rooms.
The Hon. Matthew H. Carpenter spoke at a Milwaukee temperance meeting arguing abstinence from alcohol, criticizing reformers who favor laws over personal reform. He praised Jesus methods, urged patience, and concluded by signing a total abstinence pledge along with several officials.
In 1842 Joseph Chapman and Whig lawyer Thomas Walpole campaigned in Hancock and Madison counties. Chapman mocked Walpole’s ruffled shirts, so Walpole wore Chapman's shirt to reveal ruffles, exposing Chapman’s hypocrisy. The stunt drew laughter and votes, boosting Walpole’s bid for the State Senate.

The hardware store of Thomas Holliday & Co at the northeast corner of Fifth street and Central avenue was entered on Thursday night. Thieves stole fifteen hundred dollars worth of pocket cutlery from a glass case and damaged a basement shutter to gain access. Only twelve dollars was found in the desk. The robbery occurred late, with police off duty at the time.
Newport police pledge to arrest all vagrants with no visible means of support after two more were taken yesterday. City Council approves plat books for ward assessors and a general city plat. Funds approved for street cleaning and other sundry claims totaling 701.50 dollars. Taylor street improvement authorized between Cabot and Isabella. Relief to the poor amounted to 83 dollars. Fire Wardens for each ward to be proposed by next meeting. Jail committee to arrange suitable prison attire for workers on the streets.
The distillery and other property of S N Fowler seized by government officers was released by Judge Leavitt upon bonds. Appraised total value is 23816 dollars. Bond providers are Henry Grotenkemper Godfrey Holtenhofer and John D Hine. Release based on affidavits from three dairymen linking stock to the distillery’s products. Also recorded in Recorder’s Office were certificates for Mutual Endowment Association of I O E E to aid widows, with trustees Solomon Leyi M H Schwarzerberg and N Mendelson. Iron Molders Co operative and Protective Union also filed records to aid and assist members. Trustees are Charles Jerron Daniel Thomas and Wm C Bradley. Hamilton county teachers convene at 10 am with talks on school hygiene, language sounds, and vocation in teaching.

Entries include John Blackburn to Phebe Anderson on lot 121 by 150 feet at Mii and Patterson, executors of N. Longworth to John Homsebars on Race Street, and several other deeds and leaseholds on streets such as Eight, Findlay, Elder, Buckeye, and Central avenues, with parcel sizes and nearby landmarks.
