Frank Hagerty Henry Allen and Thomas Hudson were jailed by Mayor Corns on rape charges for an assault near Hanging Rock January 16 against Mrs. Mary E Payton and her husband. The victims testified Allen touched the husband while Hagerty and Hudson dragged the wife to a cave and then acted while five others aided. Police captured three others later. more suspects were released for lack of evidence.

Fire at Beth Eden Church damages surrounding buildings
A blaze on the south side of Beth Eden Baptist Church at Beard and Spruce streets triggered three alarms. Flames spread via a twelve foot alley to the Floral Mall, damaging the church and nearby structures from water and heat. Total losses cited include church $70,000 and insurance $10,000. In Steubenville a shooting occurred this evening in a Powrth Street saloon. Henry Downe used a revolver, injuring a man named Kiflutt, who was beaten.
