In Greenville Darke county Penjamin F Wallace yesterday filed a voluntary petition asking to be adjudged bankrupt. Secured debts include Building Association Greenville Ohio 2000 I J C Hart 550 and Wm Allen 400 about fifty unsecured creditors hold small amounts many 6 8 or 9 dollars. Petition referred to John Dever Register in Bankruptcy Fourth District. Also H W and J M Wetherill of New York filed a petition for Mter Batdorf of Osborne Greene county to be declared bankrupt for a note of 93 77 unpaid. Petition referred to D W Toldings Register Third District.
Prominent citizens met at the Young Men's Christian Association to discuss French peasant distress. Murray Shipley reported 20,000 to 50,000 Northern French peasants face starvation, needing about 500000 dollars for seed corn. A seven_member committee was formed to summon a public meeting on Tuesday next, January 34, to appeal for aid.
Two day meeting of the Miami Valley Teachers Association will be held at Loveland in the Presbyterian Church beginning at 10 oclock each day. Friday features essays by D W Keever and J W Oneal, plus queries and declamations. Saturday includes Venable on Practical Education and an address by John Hancock, with an evening entertainment by Venable Kinney and Ridge. Admission 25 cents.
In regular session the board approved a disinfectant by J. C. Baum & Bon to mitigate night cart nuisance from privy vault cleaning. The board ordered organic cleaners to use the Baum product or other approved disinfectants before and after vault cleaning. A two member committee was formed to audit board health expenditures and personnel, with meeting adjourned to next Thursday at 3:15 PM.
David A Wells of Norwich Conn writes December 19 apologizing for delaying a planned trip to Cincinnati due to engrossing New York work. He promises to travel as soon as possible and to share much new information, asking Mr Osborne to bear with the delay.
The Louisville Commercial reports Maurice Gray, agent for the Seebach company, secured transportation passes from Short Line Railroad for Cincinnati to return, then switched to Jeff Road and used Ohio Mississippi passes. Colonel Jones of Short Line attached funds to Seebach, suing Jacob Grau, troupe manager, for the value of passes issued, with a hearing set for next week.
The Harmonic Society omitted substantial portions of the Messiah in last Saturday's concert including recitatives, solos, and choruses across all three parts, reducing one third of the oratorio. The report credits officers and managers for preserving unity of the performance despite heavy cuts.
