Also reports of prison sentences for lottery circulars and obituaries of Marian Evans Cross and others.
The meeting in New York included Mrs. Parnell mother of the agitator. A branch of the Cincinnati Northern Railroad is proposed from Oak Street to College Hill Narrow Gauge. Covington citizens split tickets at the upcoming municipal election. Henry Mack trustees Cincinnati Southern outlines a lease guarantee plan in a local interview.
Ottawa. December 23. The body of Pierre Burnet was found in a hole near his home. Provost confessed to police that he and Damaz Burnet, a son of the murdered man, killed the victim in his room during daylight. Provost choked Burnet while Damaz stood by. they hid the body and covered it with branches. Provost had previously been jailed for thefts and sentenced to four months.
Special dispatch reports a brutal killing at a farm dance in Mary Ann Township. Oscar Loper grappled with Samuel Levison, fled, and was chased by Sampson Harriman and an unknown accomplice who fired shots. Seper died from blunt force wounds. Harriman is suspected. Warrants issued, suspects at large amid neighborhood excitement.
Indiana ex county treasurer Col F A Lear turns over his property to bondsmen after discovering a total deficiency of about seven thousand dollars. Bondsmen named are Robt Kelly A C Button Capt Isaac Newkirk and a Mr Hostetler. Also notes on a private matinee by the Mapleson troupe and a society wedding in Satem Inc. New York reports a blood poisoning death in Brooklyn.
A major blaze swept through the principal business block in Corsicana Texas today, gutting the stocks and buildings of Fewell and Jester hardware. Insurance coverage is estimated around $65,000 with extensive losses reported for the two-story structure and adjacent shops.
New York rough OCR shows Pacific Mutual Marine and Inland Insurance Company trustees decide to exit certain ocean and inland marine business after a year of heavy losses on the lakes and North Atlantic. The move follows rate pressures and a shift in underwriting focus amid outstanding policies.
