Detroit Mystery Solved as Campau Body Found in River

The body of Mr. J. B. Campau was recovered Monday morning from the Detroit river at the foot of Bates street by laborer John Gorton after a two day search. Dr. Axford examined the body noting no marks of violence and the watch stopping shortly before one o'clock. The Tribune contends Campau died by accidental drowning during heavy drinking, not by action of his own. Three jail inmates are suspected robbers, possibly connected to the disappearance.

Are American publishers insolvent claims debunked by statistics

The article rejects claims of English book dominance, noting England exported about £133,247 of books to the United States in 1857, with a quarter from libraries and used volumes. It argues English imports supply only about $500,000 yearly and that several American publishers sell more than twice the total English imports in a year.
