Gen Grant's party arrives at Public Landing at 12 20 pm and a grand procession follows a detailed line of march through downtown Cincinnati. The Gibson House hosts lavish suites and a large reception committee reports on arrangements and funds.

Grant Visiting Columbus Arrives for Friday Reception

Preparations complete for Gen and Mrs Grant in Columbus Ohio on Friday. They will be greeted by officials and citizens at the depot with a 30 gun salute, visit the Capitol to meet Gov Bishop, view 8000 school children, and hear choral performances. A formal ball follows hosted by the Governor’s Guard with a one hour reception. Excursion trains from surrounding towns expected.

General Ulysses S Grant Attends Louisville Ball

Mrs Grant dines with Mrs D P Foulds and meets fashionable ladies, then General and Mrs Grant are driven to the Galt House where they receive Louisville citizens. A grand ball with about 500 attendees becomes the city’s most attractive event in years, the General and his wife dancing and enjoying the ovations.

A fragment records a voyage from Philadelphia to Queenstown and Liverpool then Manchester, followed by a banquet hosted by the Duke of Wellington at Apsley House. A reception for Ministers Pierce and Rous is noted in June.

Rival Telegraph Companies Battle Over Line Control

An order required Western Union to cede Great Western lines to its receiver. An appeal was filed while American Union Telegraph seized parts of lines in Missouri Kansas and Nebraska. The Appellate Court issued a supersedeas this morning restraining the American Union receiver and restoring control to Western Union.
