Near Laessura C Aug 20 a distressing self-poisoning case ends in death. Mrs Mollie Cox wife of Robie Cox a well to do farmer took Paris green and died this afternoon. She said she was losing her mind and preferred death to insanity Despite pleas of her little daughter Dr Holmes notes terrible suffering and no clear motive remains.
In Crawford County on August 20 the Democratic mass meeting at New Washington drew about 500 attendees. Speakers argued that Tilden shared steady ground with Allen from the previous year, while many remain sore and no additional meeting has been planned yet.
The Evansville & Terre Haute Railroad engineer George Shearer, killed when his engine overturned near Fort Branch last Friday night, was honored in a large funeral today in the city. A special train brought 400 mourners from Evansville as Masonic Orders and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers joined the procession.

A man was found hanging from a tree near Trenton last evening. He is a stranger to the area and remains unidentified. Authorities are aware but have not confirmed his identity as of now.
McQuinn and Jos. Thomas were arrested co defendants in the attempt to rob a bank. They were tried and acquitted. The case dated August 20 reports their vindication.

A late night effort to wreck the St express near Lincoln Creek bridge east of Rocussise New York ended when a bystander Wright, a nearby farmer, signaled danger with a swinging lantern. The embankment and rail were set to derail the train, but the intrusion was stopped in time.
A swimming match in St Louis on August 20 featured Frank Prince of St Laws facing Tom Sutcliffe of Egland. The steamer carried spectators and the swimmers to a point ten miles above the city. Prince won in one hour forty one minutes and two seconds with Sutcliffe finishing equally close.
