The Third Congressional District Democrats met at Schwab's Opera House in Hamilton to nominate a candidate for congress. After credentials, rules, and organization committees were formed, Col. Lewis D. Campbell was nominated by acclamation amid applause and speeches stressing tariff repeal and anti–land jobber bills. Campbell pledged public duty and harmony with rival Republicans and announced his resignation as state senator.

Miss Lavayea and Miss Stephan led practical object lessons in arithmetic and general methods. Prof Loomis sang at the piano, and J Eaton spoke on the national government’s role in education, detailing constitutional support, Freedmen’s Bureau influence, and calls for a national department of education. The session adjourned to 8 PM with renewed emphasis on educational policy and practice.
Acton August 16 report on the Indianapolis District camp ground near Acton with forty acres bought along the Indianapolis Cincinnati Railroad for worship. Buildings and tents burned twice during the war by arsonists to hinder Union hospital use. In 1867 the association expanded with hospital and wall tents. in 1868 the railroad erected ten two story wooden buildings. 1869 and 1870 saw further construction as the site grew for religious services.
Special correspondence from Lovisville dated August 18 reports a letter to the Kentucky Republican Central Committee from Scott county Republicans. It cites armed gatherings, threats to colored voters, and demands federal military action to restore law and order as rebels grow bolder and more violent before the county election. The signers refuse to reveal names.
A miscellaneous batch cites deaths from Virginia to New York, including Christian Vanpool age 114 and Horace Griswold, plus a plan by David P. Holton to fund a forefathers monument in Hartford. Other items note button making founder Amasa Goodene, a London physician reference, and various local anecdotes about marriages, survivals, and curiously dated notes.
Terre Haute plans a 300000 court house funding with about 1200 to 1300 residents in Vernon supporting it. WinchesterAids Union City Indians and Vigo county figures noted. A Nevins township cow nurses piglets, a six year old in Delaware county smothered in a wheat bin, and Michigan City exports 5700 berry crates. Other reports cover coal mine labor disputes at Brasil and a 111 year old colored woman in county records.
In Cincinnati Ohio Col A L Harris of Georgia was in the city yesterday. A regular meeting of the colored delegates from city wards is set for tonight at Gaines High School. Dr Adler pawnbroker appeared before the delegation and social singing with Young Men's Christian visitors from Newport took place last night with plans to meet next Thursday.
