A German named Nicholas Hertgurt, living near Newport, is found murdered on a hill by the Brighton House in Louisville. The coroner’s jury debated suicide before evidence pointed to a jealous suspect who lured him there and wounded him with a bowie knife before fleeing.
The item reports partisan strife and a looming spring campaign amid claims of a police officer in a rival faction infiltrating the other group to gather confidential details.
