An Avondale mounted officer reported sighting a richly dressed man and woman in the car just before the fatal shot, with the gun possibly left in the roadster.
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled there would be no referendum election on Cincinnati’s streetcar fare reduction amendment. Electors failed to mandamus City Auditor to certify petitions. The ruling follows a Citizens Committee petition drive led by William Schultz. officials claim signatures were invalid. The court’s decision preserves a planned fare cut to 7 cents on November 1, with a prior August 1 reduction to 8 cents and school rates at 5 cents.

In Parlin New Jersey a blast at the Sbae Poet De Nemours plant fatally wounds five and injures three while workers at the George Harris Salvage Company load pipes. Explosives in a pipe caused the explosion tossing steel fragments over the area. Separately in Kansas City five thousand pounds of powder exploded at the Excelsior Powder Manufacturing Company injuring four workers and killing one. Foreman Arthur Barber and four others were badly burned.
A world conference of the Irish race will be held in Paris on January 22, 1922, the Sinn Fein organization announced. Fourteen countries will be represented and a secretariat has already been opened in Paris.
Mrs Mary Blake Woodson Shippey was granted divorce from Lee Shippey a former Missouri newspaper man and overseas welfare worker. The court awarded alimony of 100 a month for her and 30 for their son plus 75 for attorneys fees.
Chicago September 29 Carl Wanderer awaiting execution for the murder of E J Ryan and his wife and unborn child spent his final night playing cards with guards He said Governor Small denied his reprieve and remarked that the last trick was his ace of spades before the hanging set for 7 am tomorrow morning.
Dublin reports indicate Prime Minister Lloyd George replied to Eamon De Valera with a letter read at the mansion. De Valera and Arthur Griffith reviewed it and a Dail Cabinet meeting is set for September 30. Sinn Fein leaders reportedly feel hopeful and expect acceptance of the invitation.
Prime Minister Lloyd George invited Sinn Fein leaders to a conference in London on October 11 to discuss Irish peace changes. De Valera declined meetings on the basis of prior correspondence, warning Britain cannot recognize Irish sovereignty. Lloyd George reaffirmed the invitation, stressing no recognition would be implied by conference.
Terre Haute residents Frank Graff and wife and Harry Lewis were seriously hurt when a tornado struck the city. A buggy and wagon shop collapsed, debris blew into the street and damaged several houses and power lines.
Dalmon Jones a Cincinnati political figure associated with George B. Cox and the Republican machine died after a long illness. Former Hamilton County Sheriff from 1902 he later traveled Europe Asia and worked in insurance. He lived at 221 West Ninth Street with family survivors noted. Funeral plans not yet made.
Miss Frances Hirt thirty year seven years old? Clarify. A woman struck by a car while crossing after alighting from a street car at the Cincinnati end of the Suspension Bridge died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. She suffered a skull fracture and multiple bruises. The driver claimed brakes failed and stopped at once. He, a man named William Seals, was arrested on suspicion at Newport Second District Police Station.
In Dayton, December 29, L Cc Wade a 40 year old painter was instantly killed when the automobile truck he rode in was struck and demolished by a Dayton and Western Interurban car west of the city. His uncle Peter Wade was probably fatally injured in the collision.
Police officer Charles Hines of District Five is in General Hospital after a speeding automobile struck his horse on Queen City avenue near the H and D tracks. The two occupants fled the scene. the car, reported stolen from Marshal Strieff, carried off $50 in cash. The horse and rider sustained serious injuries.
Charles Dolle returned home to find an intruder with a revolver while a second thief searched his pockets and stole a purse. The robbers entered through a window then fled. Nearby, L C Strief’s residence was looted after thieves smashed a side window and opened a small safe, taking $50 and leaving clothing scattered. The garage was also entered and his car stolen. Strief reported the incident to Cincinnati police.

About 195,000 personnel face options to disenroll or transfer without pay to Class 6 the volunteer section due to insufficient funds. Class 1 remains exempt, and the action aims to preserve some reserve connection despite cuts.
