Investigators from the St Louis School of Social Economy linked to Washington University report babies are bought and sold through maternity homes in St Louis. About 750 births occur yearly with 20 disappearances untraced, and ad driven adoptions may fetch 25 dollars.
In Centralia near here on September 26 four boys were born to Mr and Mrs Pearl Yates. Doctors say all are healthy and expected to survive. Local officials have not released further details.
Former President Taft departed Washington for New Haven Connecticut after three days in the capital attending sessions of the Lincoln Memorial Commission.
Federal Judge Lacombe dismisses Bauder’s habeas corpus, upholding deportation for attempting to bring an unwed companion into the United States as his wife. Bauder, a wealthy Swiss real estate handler in Chicago, had been accompanied by a woman posing as his wife during her visit years ago, similar to a prior case involving Maxim Gorky.
John Purroy Mitchel, fusion candidate for mayor, accepts Independence League endorsement and names Robert Adamson, late Mayor Gaynor's secretary, as campaign manager. Adamson says Gaynor urged fighting a common enemy Tammany Hall. Adamson resigns as secretary to Mayor Kline and plans to return after election.
The Lincoln Memorial Commission recommended Secretary Garrison award the superstructure contract to a local builder for 1,637,800 dollars. The foundation bids were rejected after a New York firm offered an informal bid 60,000 below the lowest regular bid. Bad Dave Hall, a moonshirer who killed Marshals Marion Ramey and John Sloan and wounded U S Marshal Potter, was trapped in a mountain cabin near Elkhorn City. Officers set the cabin ablaze and Hall surrendered as flames neared him. He was taken to the Pikeville jail after months on the run and a $500 reward had been posted.
Joseph W. Croft sues Louis F. Zinkhan asserting mental anguish from being stripped, bathed with a hose, head shaved, and mustache loss while in jail custody at Occoquan after a court sent him to the workhouse. The suit seeks the $5,000 claimed damages.

Mrs. Mary Copley Thaw criticizes William Travers Jerome as a "juggler of facts" while Governor Felker keeps an open mind on extradition. Jerome claims an indictment exists. Thaw, with his mother and Sheriff Drew, leaves for a two hour drive before dusk.
Captain Joseph E. Bernier returned from Baffin's Land and said there is no gold there. He recounted a lost crew from the Algexon, a four-man party living on the island and taking fur worth about 4000 dollars. He noted salmon rivers, two months heat, five months warmth, no vegetables, only flowers, and a healthful climate. Hudson Straits are navigable four months yearly with safeguards and wireless stations.
Olive May Wilson of Jenkintown Pa asks President Wilson to waive postage for Christmas presents mailed to poor children. The 17 year old met the President after securing support from Vice President Marshall and he said he would consider the request and respond.
Two witnesses testified that Governor Sulzer asked them to deny gifts and handle campaign funds as personal. Duncan W. Peck said he gave a $500 campaign contribution and Sulzer urged denial. Henry Morgenthau Jr. testified Sulzer asked him to treat the matter as personal and to testify with Sulzer.
