In northeastern Indiana, dry pastures curb dairy production, leaving farmers unable to meet demand in smaller towns and cutting off city supplies. Butter prices have surged as a result.
A Dublin special reports Baron Edward Gibson Ashbourne, Lord Chancellor of Ireland, will soon succeed the Earl of Aberdeen as Governor General of Canada. The highest authority is cited.

Youngstown Ohio September 25 An employee of William Todd and Co a major local foundry and machine shop reports word that starting Monday morning workers will receive a ten percent wage raise in the shop.
New Orleans records a fever surge with a record number of new cases and two deaths in a day. The Katz family sees four cases in one house including a father and three children, while guards surround Beau regards School after a fire. Physicians fail to report some cases, sparking indignation. Hospitals like Marine Hospital report three cases, one from the steamer City of Camden. The Mayor pledges ample guards to protect the building and staff.
In Jackson Mississippi on September 25 the Board of Health refused all requests from refugees to return home. The decision follows caution as fever limits are studied and spread assessed. No new yellow fever or suspicious cases have been reported at new points.
In Mobile the week ends with no material change in the fever situation. Five new cases were reported today all in the infected district. Names include Florence Barlow Elmira Street near Wilkinson E H Kinslow Palmetto near George Lulu Horn Savannah Street and Chat ham Adolph Muntz George near Savannah and Joseph Mangold in the same house. The Diana steamer with the government expedition arrived at St Johns from Hudson Bay where it investigated navigability for grain ships. It made six passages through Hudson Strait, explored Baffin Land coast, found a large inland lake, surveyed Hudson Strait shores, and reported fogs, shoals, icebergs, few lighthouses, and bleak country as reasons navigation is unfavorable. The team plans a final run to determine navigation closure.
A fire at the livery barn of S. S. Mugrage in Newcomerstown Ohio destroyed the building. Six horses were burned along with harness and rigs. Insurance stood at 400 on the barn and 800 on stock. Fire blamed on a lantern upset. Additional property losses included Mrs. Elmira Yingling’s residence and Township House, insured.
Washington dispatch reports Admiral Miller will hoist the American flag and land sailors and marines during a planned demonstration as Japan moves toward Hawaii. The plan involves transferring 160 men to Mare Island, with the Baltimore to join the Pacific squadron and the Oregon kept ready at San Francisco.
Inspector Holmes arrests a Williams brother at Canton and takes him to Toledo for trial over a $500 bogus money order. Uncertain if the man is Isaac Williams. the brothers resemble each other closely. Isaac’s Bertillon measurements were taken at the penitentiary.
Edward Bube, son of Amos Bube of Forest, was thrown from a fractious horse today in Kenton, suffering fatal injuries. The accident occurred during a ride as local officials and bystanders tended to the horse. Further details were not released.
CHICAGO Sept 5 The strongest defense witness in the Luetgert trial Mary Stemmering domestic in the household testified she stood by Luetgert claiming he was good to his wife and denying visits or improper conduct. She contradicted prior statements under oath while noting the police insult she endured, and said the wife was out of her mind before disappearance. State Attorney cross examination continued with plans to subpoena grand jury stenographic reports to challenge her credibility.
Marion Ohio Sept 2 The North Central Ohio Medical Society ended its session with a large turnout of physicians. Papers were read by J B Taylor Mary J Finley A J Erwine J A McArthur J E Brown H C Bennett J I King H A Rodebaugh and J C Oliver. Cincinnati doctors Rufus B Hall spoke on intestinal obstruction and peritonitis. All papers were well received and discussed.
Akron Ohio dispatch reports brakeman William Couleh of the Cleveland Terminal and Valley Railway was knocked from his train today and fatally injured. Medical aid arrived too late, and he died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The Martinsburg Improvement Loan and Building Association failed with an $80,000 loss to stockholders. It hopes to recover via loans to Brooklyn Brass Works and Auburn Wagon Company totaling $30,000, now in receivership. Since 1892 the town sunk $200,000, with two banks and several wealthy individuals ruined, shocking local business and eroding savings of many poor residents.
The Indiana Conference met in Indianapolis to continue the list of superannuated preachers with sixty two names. It was decided to meet at Princeton next year. Paoli residents offered to fund a permanent building near Lithia Springs for future meetings. A committee was appointed to report on Monday. The evening educational meeting supported DePauw and Moore's Hill Colleges.
