Mark P Bates and A C Townley of the Nonpartisan League were driven from Britton South Dakota by a mob estimated at 200 to 300 people. The crowd locked the Town Hall and forced them to march to the county line before they could speak.
Washington announced a quota of 6 000 000 000 for the Fourth Liberty Loan. I R Wickoff, Corresponding Secretary of the Fourth Federal Reserve District, listed quotas for Cleveland Cincinnati Columbus Springfield Dayton Mansfield Sandusky Lexington Pittsburg and others, totaling 88,372,750 for the region.
William G McAdoo announces the Fourth Liberty Loan with a minimum target of six billion dollars. New York district share is 1.8 billion, 30 percent, 4 percent interest for 20 years. He urges wealthy individuals and corporations to participate and condemns bond exchanges for risky stocks.
Cloudy conditions and rain are forecast across Ohio Indiana and Kentucky with cooler temperatures expected Thursday. West Virginia and nearby areas show increasing cloudiness Wednesday with rain and cooler air in the northwest. temperatures span from the 40s to 70s at listed stations.
Berlin dispatch reports German Chancellor Count von Hertling telling the Reichstag Main Committee that domestic discontent is driven by four years of war rather than the western front. He notes the recent offensive failures, the retreat to the Siegfried line, and cites Romania's entry as a turning point while urging restraint and information.
Roy Lancaster known as Kansas City Blackie and suspected of involvement in a train robbery near Koch Kansas died in a gun battle with police in Kansas City. His brother Warren was captured as gunfire wounded three officers and a soldier. Thousands watched as police stormed the barricaded house.

The drawing will determine order for all registrants, with 19 to 36-year-olds called first, while 18 and 36 to 45 groups await classification.

Official dispatches report Bohemia greeted American and British recognition of the Czecho-Slovak nation with unmitigated enthusiasm. The dispatches were released in Washington and carried to Bohemia as confirmation of support from the Allies.
In a daring action near No Man's Land, two British aviators forced sixty five Germans to surrender from a trench. With the plane in low flight the pilot shot at enemies, killing one and wounding three before the Germans hoisted a white flag. The pilots then guided the captives back to British lines.
Washington reports hope that China may end years of civil strife after the October 10 inauguration of President elect Hsu Shih Ching. The liberal leader proposes six principles toward peace, constitutional government, reduced military costs, and expanded trade with America, England, and Japan. The 62 year old civilian cider? native of Chili Province has held top posts including Manchuria viceroy and premier under Yuan Shih Kai.
Three naval aviators were killed when a hydroplane crashed in Pensacola Bay. Ensign J. P. Bournique of Highland Park Illinois, Machinists Thomas O. Jones of New Hartford New York, and E. B. Saunders of Westfield New Jersey died. Three other occupants were severely injured and the bodies of the dead remained unrecovered.
Field Marshal Haig reports a dawn assault from the Omignon River southward across four miles in cooperation with the French. About 800 prisoners were captured with vigorous resistance near Le Quesnoy area and continued local fighting northeast of Epehy.
Western sector action near Saint Quentin by French troops with British allies captures Fran cilly Selency l Epine de Dallon and Dallon village. The operation yields more than 500 prisoners and a large number of machine guns.
French cavalry captured Prilep as Entente forces push the Bulgarians and Germans across Macedonia. British and French units tighten the net around St Quentin and the Hindenburg line while allied troops press along the Vardar and radiating roads from Prilep to broaden the wedge between enemy forces.
