Paris reports say twenty six German airplanes were shot down in aerial combats with Allied forces. Guynemer claims his eighteenth kill as French artillery and air units repelled German attacks near l Abbe Wood and along the Somme and Meuse fronts. Britain’s Garvin calls for a million more men for victory.
Berlin reports the Somme battle remains in full swing with Anglo French assaults near Courcelette Ran court and Bouchavesnes repulsed. German air forces say they shot down twenty four Entente aeroplanes. six German planes lost. Bombs hit Mannheim killing one, Lille attacked with civilian fatalities, and a German airship struck Bour Bourgone night of September 22.
In Cambridge Harvard psychologist Hugo Munsterberg may influence witness testimony in the Albert J. Roper murder case as the defense notes long delayed trials rely on memory. The elder Roper was killed March 1 near his greenhouse. the son faces an alibi claim as a key witness placed him at the scene. In Paris, Sergeant Kiffen Rockwell, an Atlanta native in the Franco American flying corps, was mortally wounded over Thann after promotion to Second Lieutenant. He had prior combat success including shooting down a German two seater near Hartmanns Wellerkopf.
Twelve Zeppelins attacked causing 30 Britons killed and 116 injured while 28 deaths and 99 injuries occurred in London districts. Two airships were brought down, one crewman killed and another captured. Dwellings and shops were demolished as raiders were driven off by anti air guns. Special Dispatch to The Commercial Tribune reports a Pennsylvanian Railroad passenger train struck a crossing near Van Wert O nine miles east of the city, killing farmer Jacob Binkley 56, his wife, and two sons. The mother and children died instantly, Binkley died en route to a hospital, two other sons injured and hospitalized, one unconscious. The children ranged from 6 to 16 years old.
Bombs killed thirty people and injured one hundred ten across multiple locations in London, with many casualties concentrated in the district. Police and emergency services responded as authorities investigated the blasts and searched for further threats.
London reports two Zeppelins crashed in Essex County near Mangold while twelve invaded the British Isles. One ship burned after ground impact. the other reportedly landed and crew surrendered. Casualties: 28 dead in London, 2-4 killed elsewhere, 99 wounded. Searchlights and anti aircraft fire suppressed the threat.

At Zeebrugge a Batavia Line steamer was captured today by a German warship after sailing from London. The seizure occurred in the late afternoon delivery and the vessel was taken into port under German control.

French alias Jack French and Jessie Christian among those arrested. Christian previously released on bond. Irwin and Wesley are named in the scheme. case to be prosecuted by J C Knox from New York.
Mrs. W. D. Henderson disappeared from the Hotel Sherman and later said she would stay. Her husband, a Cincinnati lithographer, is ill at his daughter Mrs Daniel F. Sullivan’s home in Chicago. The son produced a railroad ticket noting his stepmother’s ride to Cincinnati but she denied plans to leave. Henderson’s condition remains unsettled as he recovers from a nervous attack while his family navigates the newly revealed marriage.
A Chicago man Edward Meisenberg charged the Waldheim Cemetery monument society with failing to pay the marine Samuel Meisenberg's poverty stricken parents. He charged into a crowd of about 500, forced cancellation of the dedication, and accused officials of using the grave for fundraising. Chicago honored Meisenberg upon his Vera Cruz death with a large homecoming and offices noted.
