Four occupants of a large touring car drowned when returning from a lake shore resort the car, speeding around a curve in West End, New Orleans, plunged into the Big Basin canal. Victims were W. R. Freeman 35 of New York City. Thomas Boettler 43 of New Orleans. Dorothy Hall 21 of New Orleans. Marian Giblen 25 of New Orleans. A laborer headed to work witnessed the crash. Boettler was a Kent, Ohio native. Hall had moved to New Orleans from Baton Rouge three years earlier and has a sister in Oklahoma City. Giblen, from St. Louis, had relatives there. some reported spellings of her name varied.

In New York on September 24 a former customs official was acquitted while two others were convicted on one count each in the custom house fraud underweighing trial. The verdict was delivered before Judge Martin by a federal jury in the United States circuit court.
