Melville E. Ingalls eldest son of the late Cincinnati financier and railroad executive died in New York after a relapse from an appendectomy. Born in Cincinnati 62 years ago, he practiced law, owned Hot Springs property, and held stakes in major lines including the Big Four and New York Central. Survived by widow, sister Mrs. Robertson, and brothers Fay, George H., and Albert Ingalls. He helped found the Cincinnati Art Museum and spoke at its dedication in 1893.
Sixteen year old Charlotte Mills asserts a jealous woman killed her mother Mrs Eleonor Reinhart Mills and minister Rev Edward Wheeler Hall in New Brunswick. She describes the suspect as strong, with funny eyes and a dislike of youth, and says her mother’s supposed jealousy is tied to church tensions. Authorities pursue the jealousy motive as arrest looms.
Frank Monteleone, owner of a Kansas City pool hall, was taken into custody after identifying a partly burned corpse found near North Kansas City. Police link the case to the Restiva Campanella feud with notes and a Dallas tip suggesting the victim, Rosie Cereka, was the divorced wife of Mike Rastanti.
Mike S Rastani, ex-husband of Rosie Cereira, says Kansas City police believe she was another victim in the Campanella Restiva family feud that has killed seven in the county. He insists she was not involved in the vendetta murders.
From Adrianople Sept 22 The Associated Press reports Greece intends to defend Thrace at all costs by redeploying divisions from Northern Epirus and Macedonia to Adriano ple. French dispatches say Thracian troops morale improves under General Anastasios Polymenakos who earned praise for a heroic stand at Brusa.
In South Bend Indiana on September 22 Harry Poulin prepared to take the stand in his own defense against a charge by Mrs. John P Tiernan that he is the father of her third child. The cross examining lawyer pursued dates of church attendance and a letter from Indianapolis tied to the case. Prosecutor Floyd Jellison and defense lawyer Samuel Parker clashed over questions as Mrs Poulin testified through a long afternoon session.
Six paleontologists working along the Red Deer River in Alberta uncovered several dinosaur fossils. An almost complete duck-billed skeleton and a large flesh-eating reptile were excavated, along with a petrified tree trunk. The specimens, weighing up to 2,500 pounds, were transported to the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.
In East Liberty Pittsburgh on September 22 a concerted free show for neighborhood pupils ended as the Strand floor fractured dropping about fifty pupils into the basement. Eight year old Madaline Kunkle died. thirty eight injured including theater owner Sol Selznick. In New York a woman found the body of Pong Tom, a Chinese butler, in a duffle bag in a Chinatown hallway. Police suspect a tong related vengeance motive, noting Pong Tom was not a tong member and had carried money. Authorities consider a possible female suspect.
Anton Treste Pavichich, the newly named Minister of Jugo Slavia to the United States, arrived in New York aboard the steamship France. He was welcomed by the Jugo Slavic Consulate and a delegation of countrymen.
