Anna Slifka and Helen Halstead exposed deceptions behind the town’s famed “Jack Hill” romance. Slifka testified she knew her husband’s true identity before marriage and that Halstead planned the ruse to fund college via male wages.
In Trenton New Jersey deputy keeper Eli B Stetser was shot and died after a morning clash with convict William Diamond during an escape attempt at the New Jersey State Prison. Diamond was wounded twice by Stetser as James Johnson fled after wounding Pierson. Both convicts were serving robbery sentences.
Philadelphia date Sept 21 special report describes Ben Jamin Abrahams a 26 year old wealthy manufacturer given 1000 units of anticarbuncle serum at Hahnemann Hospital. Doctors say asthma attacks diminished after carbuncle drainage and injection. Treatment to continue daily for six more days with hopes of curing asthma.
Albany Sept 21 The impeachment trial of Governor Sulzer hinges on constitutional objections as his fate hangs on legal rulings. Charles Murphy Tammany leader is seen by Sulzer allies as likely to testify if proceedings advance. Attorneys prepare arguments as prosecutors seek to present evidence starting Wednesday.

AANESVILLE Ohio September 21 Three sisters Mrs Charles Andrews Zanesville Mrs Stella Caldwell Pittsburgh and Mrs Mamie Paul Martins Ferry will meet in Martins Ferry tomorrow for the first time in forty years. Their father remarried after their mother died and the sisters were raised apart until an attorney settling their mother's estate brought them together.
The burning of Emma Lee Rout’s home in Maysville Kentucky is believed to be a murder masked by arson. Officials hold construction workers Jim Stewart Joe Lee and Charles Smith from the L N crew on suspicion of involvement.
Rear Admiral Robert E. Peary on Eagle Island denies the report of his daughter Marie Peary's engagement to Arctic explorer Donald Macmillan. A telegram responding to inquiries says the engagement claim is entirely untrue.

Mayor Shook warned ONU students and will deal severely with the two arrested youths.
Etampes France Sept 21 The noted aviator Henri Farman had a narrow escape from death today in an airplane with his wife aboard The craft plunged from about 100 feet striking the ground hard Farman suffered a serious leg injury and his wife fractured her arm with both in stable condition after the crash
The revenue cutter Bear, stuck among ice near Point Barrow Alaska, narrowly escaped destruction during its Nome to Point Barrow cruise. Captain J G Ballinger reports the ship endured a night and day in a strong ice pack, yet sustained no damage. The voyage carried law enforcement and aid duties with a native amputee treated aboard and a wooden leg made by the ship’s carpenter. The Arctic mail service is reportedly aiding fox-skin shipments to Seattle.
Jacob Wolfsohn, a Rochester killer who strangled Anna Schumacher in 1909, confessed after reading the Hans Schmidt case. A medical examiner aid questioned him while details emerged of his awakening conscience and his room decor linking to Watts Galahad and Hans Schmidt, with prison supervision tightened after his collapse.
