Ballston New York September 21 Former Congressman George West is dead at his home of apoplexy at age 78. He served three terms in Congress. West built a large fortune in paper manufacturing and was involved in newspapers, including ownership of the New York Press.
Czar Nicholas II and Czarina with President Loubet witnessed a 140,000-strong review at Betheny. The parade featured a 20,000-strong cavalry charge, bayonets fixed, and banners flying as Gen. Brugere led the show. The Czar donated charity funds and thanked French leaders before departing toward Kiel.
New York Sept 21 The Seventh National Bank will become the Federal National Bank under a reorganization plan approved by Comptroller Dawes. Two options were submitted by William Cromwell and Receiver Raynor. one enlarges capital by at least 1.5 million dollars under the current bank name, the other forms a new bank to acquire Seventh National assets and pay all liabilities in full. Both plans promise cash on opening day to satisfy depositors and creditors and maintain over 1.5 million in unimpaired capital. The Heaths are not part. the West is represented by Cincinnati magnate Alexander McDonald.
American delegates to the Methodist Ecumenical Conference in England plan to raise funds in the United States for a Wesley Chapel stained glass window to honor their visit. About fifty to sixty delegates will remain in England for provincial gatherings in Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool or Bristol. They note English Wesleyan ministers’ use of wine and beer and defend moderation as a right in a free country, citing Wesley's lifelong wine use.
New York dispatch says Elihu Root Secretary of War hastened home to tend his eldest son ill with typhoid fever for two weeks. He will return to Washington after the critical period, expected next week.
