Scranton operator Michael Gibbons signed the union scale to avert a shutdown, promising to keep fifty men working if his shop is exempt from the strike. About 300 journeymen tailors employed by various firms in Cleveland went on strike today seeking higher wages.

Clarence Matthews drove a stallion that became unmanageable and ran over William Hubbard aged 50 in Bedford Indiana causing almost certain death. The tragedy occurred today as Matthews operated the horse on a public road. Hubbard died at the scene and authorities investigated.
