A wagon driven by Harber collided with a fast freight on the Monongah River Railroad near North View. The impact killed Francis Drummond and a second man, seriously injured another rider, bruised Harber, and wrecked the wagon and flour cargo. Drummond’s body was taken to Shinnston for burial.
Abner McKinley with Mrs McKinley and daughter Mabel accompanied by Col William K Brown Wilbur Endsley and Rayburn C Smith spent the day in Omaha en route for an outing listing Denver Manitou Salt Lake City Portland Victoria and then San Francisco and Los Angeles. Thomas Griffin aged 12 dies after Charles Black’s broomstick throw hits his epiglottis. The force ruptures the windpipe and Griffin suffocates within half an hour. Post mortem finds trachea broken in two. No arrests. Black is grief stricken and regarded as unaccountable.
In Massillon Ohio on September 19 Nicholas Klein died from injuries after a mine explosion north of the city. His son suffered multiple broken and dislocated bones in the same incident as smoke from a fellow miner's shot filled their room and trapped them.
The City of Jacksonville steamship from Jacksonville Florida is stranded six miles south of Portsmouth North Carolina. Crew was rescued as a heavy sea and southeast winds prevail. The incident occurred near Beaufort North Carolina on September 19.
