In Bend Indiana on September 18 a sensational court room scene unfolded as Mrs Tiernan and others faced testimony about paternity of a child. Police reserves were called to maintain order as a crowd surged for seats and a man identified as the reputed father appeared nonchalant in the trial.
Mrs Tiernan testified about an alleged illicit romance with Poulin during a lengthy cross examination. She described biweekly meetings near the city and ongoing secrecy until two months before the birth of her child as a crowd gathered at City Hall for the hearing.
Seamen on Great Lakes vessels belonging to the Lake Carriers Association will refuse to sail on ships that do not adopt the three watch system or eight hour day starting October 1. Cincinnati residents faced a cool spell with the temperature at 46 degrees. Weatherman W A Derereaux forecast the chill would be short lived and that temperatures would rise gradually toward seasonal averages. Showers were expected today.
