Special Dispatch reports on Colbert reserve ten miles from Florence where Patton a negro quarrelled with planter Sherrod and knocked him from a buggy. Sherrod's brother confronted by a negress, armed clash ensued with whites and blacks. John Rowell a colored man was killed amid ongoing tension and possible reprisals.
Newton Dill 40 was found shot in his Sunbury pike farm home eight miles from Columbus. His wife Mrs Dill and hired man Michael Heimlich were arrested on suspicion of murder after neighbors heard threats and a gun discharge. The case stems from a quarrel over Heimlich and alleged threats to “do up” Dill.
The Daily Item charges an attorney and an insurance agent as outside conspirators in the Union National Bank robbery of about half a million dollars. US District Attorney Gurley doubts their involvement and no arrests have been made yet. Bank examiner Es cot and Gurley questioned bookkeeper Frank B. Leefe who offered help but could not identify conspirators. Arrests are expected as investigators pursue the outside crew.
Secretary of State Taylor reports many county auditors in Ohio are serving illegally under a new term rule. The law moved the start of auditor terms to the fifth Monday in October, but most counties extended incumbents without required certificates. In Bonner Springs Kansas two children Hasley Pettit four years old son of A W Pettit a druggist and Charley Waters three years old were found unconscious in the cellar under Pettit's drug store they had overturned a five gallon cask of gasoline no explosion occurred and the children suffocated by fumes they died shortly after being removed to the surface
Ethel Woods, a 22 year old unmarried woman, was arrested in Danville Illinois for arson after her lover George Allen deserted her. She allegedly tried to burn down the house where he resided at midnight last Saturday. the west side of the house was found afire when discovered.
Apsley of the Republican Congressional Committee reports strong McKinley support across Iowa Nebraska Colorado Nevada and the Pacific states after touring eight Western states with Representative Mc of Massachusetts. He says only a few mining states may stay with Bryan and urges continued aggressive campaigning to win California Oregon and other key regions.
General Daniel Sickles appeals to Union veterans to unite for national honor and law and order amid factional threats. He warns against Bryan’s reform and silver payment policies, claiming they would imperil pensions and undermine the courts, urging veterans to support the country over party.
In Nelsonville Ohio a feud over who would marry them ended with Rev J A Jayne officiating after the bride and her family backed his claim. The groom favored Rev W A Roush who had just returned from a year away and had proposed starting his own church. About thirty five followers of Jayne had split from Roush.

N K Whipp aged 43 of Marion Co died after a four week illness of typhoid pneumonia. He served as Commander of the Supreme Commandery United Order American Mechanics and was elected to its highest office at the Denver session. He helped grow the order and was active in the Junior Order of American Mechanics. Funeral services will be held next Sunday afternoon.
Special Dispatch reports thieves occupied the residence of Mrs N B Thompson at 619 Leonard Avenue for at least three weeks while she and her son Dr George D Thompson were away on a eastern tour. On their return they found the house ransacked with furnishings damaged and valuables missing as the burglars fled with heavy loot.
