Six young men drowned when the recreation cutter from the U S naval training station near Lake BluffWas swamped on a sand bar offshore. Seven were missing and a rescue boat capsized. The storm's northeast gale turned Lake Michigan into deadly swells as crews and spectators watched the tragedy.
William D Haywood, general organizer of the IWW, was arrested in Boston on a conspiracy indictment tied to the Lawrence textile strike. He posted $1,000 bail and urged a Massachusetts wide strike, as Ettor Giovannitti and Caruso face murder accessories charges in Lawrence.
Wesley Edwards and his sweetheart Maud Iroler traveled with Detective Baldwin to Roanoke for trial on a murder charge. The couple, handcuffed together, spent a few hours in Cincinnati and shared words of love while en route.

Goshen New York Sept 15 Burton W Gibson caused excitement at the Orange county jail by sending a note to District Attorney Thomas C Rogers seeking an immediate audience. Rogers said Gibson aims to subpoena every eyewitness from Greenwood Lake for the Sept 24 hearing and may arrange a second autopsy on Mrs Ritter. Gibson now speaks of himself as a lawyer and calls his case “my client” in discussions.
A civic committee from the Pittsfield Board of Trade dispatched in khaki uniforms to sweep sidewalks along main streets after merchants failed to tidy fronts. In 90 minutes they cleaned fifty properties including Mayor Miller’s and the First Baptist church, leaving placards reading Cleaned by the Board of Trade.
Chicago reports an aviation meet where wind reached 35 miles per hour. Max Lillie Glenn Martin Farnum Fish and Tom Kearney competed in bomb throwing and tomato dropping contests. Lillie won bomb throwing. Martin won the landing event landing within 84 feet of the target. Kearney second with 107 feet.
Albanian rebel leaders tell the Turkish government they will not surrender until reforms are met. They seek justice administration changes, peacetime military service in European vilayets, capable officials, and schools in Yanina Monastir Skutari and Kosovo. They demand private schooling freedom, road and rail construction, and amnesty.
Miss Delia Torrey hosted a party in Millbury Massachusetts in honor of her nephew William Howard Taft the president. Guests included Mrs Taft Miss Helen Taft PB Taft and Mrs Co B Taft. Taft attended church motor rides and helped Millbury Unitarian church with a substantial gift noted in a letter.

New York reports the arrest of Lefty Louie Rosenberg and Gyp the Blood Horowitz at 756 Woodward Avenue Brooklyn. Detectives recovered forty letters and postcards, later turned over to Acting District Attorney Moss amid questions over police reporting. Arrests follow the Rosenthal murder case, with wives and a witness lined up for examination and the gunmen held without confessions.
