Fitzgerald, a former sorting teller at the Chicago subtreasury, was arrested on charges of stealing 173000 on Feb 19 1907. Indicted secretly Feb 17 1910 the case cited embezzlement and larceny with a possible ten year federal sentence.
Boston scene at Harvard aviation field features Ralph Johnstone and Walter Brookins performing daring stunts under Wilbur Wright's supervision. Johnstone executes steep vees and Dutch rolls while Brookins achieves a six second end over end maneuver. Curtiss and Willard fly, Grahame White challenges, and a model battleship bomb drop finale closes the meet with a $3,000 cup race and city and Hammond prizes.
The Republican state committee released dates for September and October campaign appearances by Warren G Harding Nicholas Longworth Denman Charles Dick Albert Douglas and James Joyce. Harding starts Sept 20 in Clarksburg with daily stops in central Ohio until Oct 8 Chillicothe. Other speakers follow in Logan Akron Greenfield Portsmouth and more across Ohio with multiple engagements in Clarksburg Zanesville Mansfield Granville and Lancaster.
Grand Exalted Ruler August Herrmann named William Bodemer as private secretary, a hotel proprietor and past Exalted Ruler of Cincinnati Lodge. Bodemer viewed as highly informed on grand lodge affairs after several unsolicited candidacies. Herrmann also announced key grand lodge appointments including Rev. John Dysart as grand chaplain and James R. Nicholson as grand ensign. District deputies named for Southwestern Ohio include M. O. Burns, with other Ohio deputies A. B. Dawson, Dwight B. Edwards, and E. T. Miller. Kentucky selections were Alfred Gowling and G. L. Roberts.
Assistant Attorney General John A. Alburn defended the thirteen canal collectors before the state board of public works, saying their discharge would harm canal profitability. He cited their roles as inspectors and witnesses protecting state lands, with examples of saved funds and encroachment monitoring.
Ernest W. Gerbracht former superintendent at the Williamsburg refinery of American Refining Company and Charles R. Heike former secretary treasurer were convicted last spring of defrauding the government by underweighing sugar. Gerbracht sentenced to two years in federal prison at Atlanta and fined $5,000. Judge Martin stayed appeal and set bail at $25,000. Heike remains as the man higher up and his status is pending.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune reports Oxford College in Oxford Ohio opening its eightieth academic year with 115 students, a record enrollment. Dr Jane Sherzer delivered the opening address. New faculty include Dean Frances Louise Prosser Madame Van Duyn and Prof Edward Fletcher.
Louisville report on congressional Ballinger investigation shows Ollie James accusing Republicans of stalling until after elections. He cites quorum breaks, absences by Root Flint Olmsted and Denby, and asserts five members stayed to proceed. He says Minneapolis meeting planned to prepare and publish the report.
In Chicago on September 14 Judge McSurely denied the motion for arrest of judgment in the murder case of Dr Haldane Cleminson. Cleminson was found guilty of murdering his wife last year and was formally sentenced to life imprisonment.
Washington dispatch faultily installed and designed oil burning machinery on the dreadnaught Kota caused a blast that killed three men aboard and injured others. Investigators cite improper setup and faulty design as the primary cause of the explosion.
Curtis Guild Jr special ambassador of the United States addressed a public banquet in Mexico City on Sept 14 for the Mexican centennial celebration. He described the United States and Mexico as hands joined on an equal footing, signaling a cordial bilateral rapport between the two republics.
Chicago Sept 14 The so called brick trust was indicted by the federal grand jury for violating the Sherman antitrust law. Four individuals and three companies named D V Purington C C Barr H S Renkert and William F Brennan include presidents secretaries and a Chicago agent. Bench warrants issued. alleged price fixing at Chicago brick markets. Proceedings set with Oct 1 plead deadline.
In Columbus Ohio the Columbus Motor Car Transportation company emerges as a rival to the street railway plan backed by union labor. Over $100000 in stock pledges, car-track parallel machines at 3000 dollars each, and seven tickets for a quarter outline the transport scheme. Governor Harmon cites constitutional limits on compulsory arbitration in Ohio without amendments, while Mayor Marshall urges chamber of commerce mediation. John F Brady, linked to Aug 12 shootings of Mrs Kelly and Mrs Hart, faces arraignment for shooting with intent to kill, bound over at 500 dollars, with Judge Dawley of Cleveland representing him.

Hartford report on the Connecticut Republican convention notes Taft praised as a good and great president. State ticket includes Gov. Charles A. Goodwin and Lt. Gov. Dennis Blakeslee.
