Eleven Cork Hunger strikers remain alive but far weaker. Burke and Kenny collapsed twice overnight. Sean Hennessy, a nineteen year old, is comatose and refusing most water. Strikers grow more restless as doctors warn. Government doctors Pearson and Battiscombe have received death threats.

Boston area reports a rise in infantile paralysis with 14 new cases, bringing the state total to 97. Health officials convened with Harvard University's Commission on Infantile Paralysis to map control measures amid the largest tally since 1916.

Opal Shepherd 8 sister of the dead girls was crushed badly and not expected to live. A smaller sister and the stepfather and mother Ben and Mrs Jones were injured. The family resided in Newark.

Tudor instructed Police Chief William Copelan to aggressively combat handbook operators with arrests where evidence supports it.

John Haberkamp a 24 year old from Cleveland with a high school and business college background declared himself wrecked from narcotics when arrested yesterday and brought before United States Commissioner Edward Hurley charged with possession of drugs Haberkamp explained he had been using narcotics for some time.
Frederick H. Parkhurst Republican elected Maine governor by a large margin as vote counts show women voting heavily for the GOP. Republicans carry all four congressional districts and gain control of the state legislature with Roy Wardwell elected state auditor. Early returns from 557 of 632 precincts indicate Parkhurst leads McIntyre by about 59 670, with Parkhurst at 124 966 to 64 296 for McIntyre. Congressional results show Beedy and White leading in their districts, Peters and Hersey ahead in their districts.
