Post dispatch from Houston reports Galveston under martial law after the 1900 disaster. An official estimate states about 5,000 lives lost and a large portion of homes destroyed with thousands homeless. Aid is urgently requested as transport limits hamper relief. Walter C. Jones appeals for help.
The city of Galveston endures catastrophic damage from the hurricane, with six miles of island cut off, no light, interrupted water supply, and widespread wreckage. Officials describe a deadly toll and massive relief efforts led by volunteers, police, and military, while families are displaced and bodies collected for burial as a bridge plan and aid mobilization unfold.
Reports to Governor Sayers from Galveston indicate 400 bodies identified and 200 more in an improvised morgue awaiting ID. Many others are believed drifted at sea and may never be identified for weeks.
Chicago faced a severe storm with 72 mph winds peaking at 2 pm. Between Forty-seventh and Fifty-ninth streets west of Cottage Grove Avenue, signs were torn roofs ripped and limbs felled. One man killed by a live wire, another drowned off Forty-first Street.
Galveston Texas faces urgent relief actions as the relief committee and 500 volunteers offer services to clear debris and restore access. Debris burning, trenches for burials, and ship transfers to Galveston aim to reopen passages and supply water works. Brazoria County sends armed men to protect the city while doctors and cooks join a citizen committee aboard relief boats.
Special Despatch reports Indianapolis enduring the tail end of the Galveston storm with winds rising from twelve to forty three miles per hour by noon and fluctuating through the afternoon. Some wires between Indianapolis and Chicago were damaged but there was no material damage reported.
Dallas visitors recount shocking scenes of looting and mutilation in Galveston and Texas City after the hurricane. They describe theft of jewelry and silverware, bodies stripped, and widespread vandalism by African Americans and a few white accomplices. Troops are requested to restore order.
Mayor W C Jones estimates up to 5000 dead after the Galveston catastrophe as 2300 bodies have been recovered or buried. Many remains decomposed and buried in trenches or debris. Looting is met with deadly force as soldiers patrol with police. several shots reported and up to twenty five killed.

A strong gale swept South Bend, Indiana, on September 11, knocking down trees and damaging orchards and other property as it moved through the area during the afternoon.
Akron dispatch reports a daytime daylight burglary wave at Krumroy ten miles south of Akron. While residents attended a Sunday school picnic burglars entered a dozen of the town's finest houses and carried off a large haul.
A brief notice reports an appeal for aid to Texas residents amid urgent need for funds. It notes a total request amount of Thousand Dollars and urges rapid contributions from readers to assist those affected.
The Galveston flood relief effort organized by the City Chamber of Commerce, the Mayor’s office, and the Business Men’s Club receives cash and in kind donations. Roth Packing offers 2000 pounds smoked meat. Foulds Milling ships ten barrels flour. Shinkle Wilson & Kreis provide five barrels rice. General Ryan chairs the relief committee with C. B. Murray as secretary. daily 1:30 p.m. meetings planned. Weather Bureau Bureau Cincinnati reports a tropical storm that began near Key West, raged across the gulf to Texas Galveston, then moved northeast through the Midwest. It produced strong winds from Cincinnati to Chicago with high barometer drops and widespread rain.
