Bradford B. McGregor died early this morning after kidney disease surgery at his cottage near Monro(e)ck. He married Miss Clara Schlemmer of New York just hours before the operation. He was the son of late Ambrose M. McGregor, an organizer of the Standard Oil Company.
Sir Frederick Augustus Abel an honorary secretary and director of the Imperial Institute and president of multiple scientific bodies including the British Association Iron and Steel Institute the Chemical Society and the Institute of Chemistry has died. Born in 1626 his passing is noted in London Rept. 8.
Democratic leaders in Ohio postpone the State Executive Committee meeting and invite Colonel Bryan to speak, but only within the Fourth Congressional District. Garber plans to educate voters with literature on trusts and imperialism while preferring out of state speakers via the Democratic Congressional Committee. C C Philbrick opposes Magruder as Secretary amid factional politics. Bryan begins a campaign tour with stops in Hastings and Joplin, then other towns, with most October spent in Nebraska for Fusion tickets.
In Kingstown Island of St Vincent on September 8 reports describe the Soufriere eruption altering Rabacca River into a fire stream a quarter mile wide. lava ejecta reshaped the coast, with new ridges valleys and a jagged summit. Laborers near Haracas narrowly escaped, while estates Petit Bornelle and Sharpe's report ash and grit ruining arrowroot and cocoa crops. A night storm with thunder followed the crater activity.
Special Despatch: Former Kentucky Governor Taylor allegedly threatened to “fill him full of holes” on a Philadelphia Pennsylvania Street Car line in Indianapolis. The conductor claimed a transfer was required, a scuffle followed, and Taylor warned violence before paying his fare. No gun was confirmed as drawn by the crew.
A sailboat with seven aboard capsized on Spring Lake near Lagrange Indiana. Two occupants, Miss Effie Reams of Kalamazoo Michigan and 12 year old Harry Ford, son of Superintendent Ford of Fruitport Iron Works, drowned. Five others were rescued by the steamer Fannie Rose as onlookers watched in rough water. The rudder was defective.
The Republican State campaign will open with a mass meeting in Akron on September 27. Chairman Dick, Secretary Malloy, and Treasurer Burdell set the arrangements after Burdell’s return from Europe. Akron hosts follow successful openings in 1893 and 1899, leading to McKinley and Nash gubernatorial wins. Senator Hanna and Senator Foraker named as chief speakers with Nash and a national figure anticipated. The Columbus Gleen Club and many Republican clubs will attend. The Legislature is hoped to finish by the 27th.
In Wilkes Barre Pa on September 8 a clash between striking miners at Maltby left Sistieno Van Castelli dead and Frank Portay badly injured. Pickets blocked roads as miners feared a full work shift. two Italian men approached with guns, were misidentified as nonunion, leading to lethal violence. Portay is hospitalized. no arrests reported.
Governor White orders the Signal Corps and five militia companies to leave the New River coal fields as miners resume work amid tension over anticipated trouble. No further clashes reported.
SIMLA India Sept 8 the Duke and Duchess of Connaught travel to the coronation durbar aboard a warship. Guests of Lord Curzon and Lady Curzon include Mrs Lester mother of Lady Curzon and Mrs George Cornwallis among others.

Dayton Ohio September 8 An amusing incident arose at the Probate Office as Philip Parkewisz died while seeking a refund on a marriage license for Miss Alekas a Russian girl. The bride refused to marry and ejected the wedding party preventing the ceremony and payment reimbursement.
The Maritime Court ruled that Captain Johannesen was not the master of the Arctic steamer America. He was only sailing-master under Evelyn Baldwin's orders, on both sea and land, per his contract.

Wright, serving a murder sentence in Tennessee Penny, supposedly killed up to six men.
In Barcelona on September 8 authorities linked yesterday’s disturbances to anarchists aiming to mark the anniversary of President McKinley’s shooting. They allege planned acts and unrest followed the event.
A strong earthquake lasting six seconds shook Pau in the Department of Basses Pyrenees France at about 2 30 this morning. The tremor was felt across the area prompting local authorities to inspect for damage. No injuries reported as dawn broke.
