Lexington Ky Sept 7 At 11 o'clock Saturday night the death knell of whisky production in the United States will sound and one of the oldest industries will perish for the war period. Kentucky has 180 bonded distilleries with 20 in the Seventh District. Distilleries mash 7000 bushels of corn daily and 6000 men may lose work. Whisky output rose from 18-20 million gallons to 40 million by 1916 before war measures. The liquor men say only plants with favorable freight rates on fuel and corn will profit in industrial alcohol. Should bone dry laws persist, whisky supplies face uncertain duration.
